The Planning Inspectorate is an executive agency. It is sponsored by the Department for Communities and Local Government, and the Welsh Government. The Inspectorate deals with planning appeals, infrastructure planning applications, examinations of local plans, and other planning-related and specialist casework. It receives over 20,000 planning appeals a year – complex cases that can take up to six months to complete, which must be processed in accord with the relevant legislation. Many documents are received and sent during the case processing; they all need to be stored and subjected to records management policies.
How Aiimi Helped
From initial analysis and solution design through to system rollout, Aiimi worked with the Planning Inspectorate to deliver a new case management system for planning appeals. The system was based on OpenText Content Server, and included StreamServe for the generation of letters. Bespoke extensions to Content Server where developed in .NET, along with integrations into supporting business systems. We have subsequently extended the system to support other types of case work handled by the Planning Inspectorate. These enhancements also provide operational reporting to assist the management of casework.
“Aiimi has implemented a case management and EDRMS solution for The Planning Inspectorate that supports the processing of over 20,000 cases a year by 700 users.”
