BI Developer

Background

We are looking to add an experienced BI Developer to our growing consulting team. You will work on client facing projects, so previous experience in consultancy is beneficial to this role.

The role offers a diverse opportunity with a need to wear multiple hats for different clients and projects. These hats range from technical development to deploying strategies, roadmaps and governance models as well as focusing on the user experience.

We have an exciting and varied client list, that are located throughout the UK. Due to this, all applicants must be willing and able to travel and work away from home as part of this role.

Requirements of the Role

As a BI Developer, you will be required to deploy production-ready solutions for our customers. The day to day varies greatly depending on the need of the customer. To give you a good understanding of the types of duties associated with this role, we have outlined the below:

  • Mentoring and training the team at client site around the following areas/technology;
    • Power BI / SQL / Azure
    • Analysis Techniques
    • User Centric Design requirements
    • Requirement gathering
    • Troubleshooting
  • Supporting from a technical basis any infrastructure around Power BI or SQL with a view to move into a supported system/solution, including;
    • The Enterprise Gateway
    • Version conflict between the software and service with rectification
    • Template building
    • Migration of data
  • The design of governance and roadmaps at a micro and macro level within organisations, deploying from best practice
  • Evangelising the technology and methodologies across organisations and designing the route to adoption based on business capability
  • Supporting, testing and creating BAU reporting/storage solutions
  • Modelling solutions to user-centric design and data-driven decisions ideologies to aid in deploying robust solutions
  • Working with clients to understand the changes taking place in their organisation

Essential Experience  

We would like to hear from people with the following:   

  • Experience of the Microsoft BI Stack (SQL/SSIS/SSAS/SSRS/Power BI)
  • Proficient in SQL, DAX, MDX, Power Query (M)
  • Experience in Azure – especially SQL DB/DW
  • A good understanding of dimensional modelling, especially Kimball
  • Working knowledge of utilising assurance measures to gain user confidence
  • Working knowledge of the Office 365 Suite and how it integrates with the Microsoft BI Stack
  • Design, implement and solidify a roadmap and strategy with quantifiable success measures, like;
    • Opportunity Cost Saved/Enabled
    • Impact and Value
    • Adoption
  • The capability of mentoring and coaching others when it comes to business adoption of new technology or ideologies. This includes people at various levels from Developers, End Users, Infrastructure teams, Project Managers and Senior Leaders
  • The capability of managing stakeholder expectations and being able to un-pick requirements from conversations
  • Experience in setting up POCs (Proof of Concept)/MVPs (Minimal Viable Product) in different environments
  • The capability of deploying an ‘Early Adoption’ mechanism and quantify value/identify problems with rectification
  • Working knowledge of how to troubleshoot problems in the above technologies and languages

Experience in the following areas would be beneficial to the role:

  • Exposure to handling unstructured data such as documents, videos, images, etc…
  • Experience with using technology such as Tableau, QlikView, D3, R and Python
  • Exposure to Azure Stream Analytics, Azure Cosmos DB and Azure Data Factory
  • Experience in SAP BW and or BusinessObjects

Qualifications

  • Educated to a Bachelor or Masters level in disciplines like Computer Science, Mathematics/Statistics, Business/Strategy or equivalent
  • MCP/MCSA/MCSE level qualifications preferable but not necessary

Compensation

  • Competitive Salary!
  • Up to 10% of basic salary in flexible benefits (to include death in service and critical illness cover as standard plus private healthcare, dental, pension etc.)
  • Up to 10% of basic salary in bonus
  • 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays (you will receive an additional day of annual leave for every 2 years of your employment)
